History

The KCMC University Convocation was established through promulgation of the Constitution of the Convocation, 1st Edition of 2019. The Constitution was revised and approved by the then College Governing Board of the Kilimanjaro Christian Medical University College (KCMUCo) in November 2024. In February 2025, the KCMUCo Convocation and its Committees were operationalized and the first meeting of the Executive Committee (ExCOM) of the Convocation convened. Following the transformation of KCMUCo to a fully-fledged University named as KCMC University, the KCMUCo Convocation changed its name to the KCMC University Convocation operating through its Constitution, KCMC Charter and Rules, 2025, the Universities Act No.7, Chapter 346 of the Laws of Tanzania and its Regulations

To be a center of excellence that fosters lifelong engagement between KCMC University and
its alumni, promoting academic and professional development for the betterment of society.

Mission

To provide an enabling environment for innovative and high-quality teaching, research, and
services that respond to national and global healthcare needs.

Main objective of the convocation

To establish a collaborative platform that actively engages Convocation members, and the National and Global community to support the University’s mission, enhance its objectives, and contribute to national development by 2030.

Objectives


  • To maintain an up-to-date alumni database that enhance communication and information sharing between the University and its alumni.
  • To provide a platform for discussion on the University’s growth and academic matters.
  • To promote the professional development of members.
  • To support KCMC University’s core functions, including teaching, research, and community service.
  • To mobilize resources through diverse and sustainable fundraising activities to support College programs and initiatives
  • To recognize and award outstanding alumni achievements.

Functions of the Convocation


  • Discuss any matter relating to the University including (but not limited to) any matter referred to it by the University Council and the Senate and to report its views and activities. 
  • To solicit funds from among members and from others for the purposes of Convocation and the University and to determine the manner in which they may be used. 
  • Maintaining dialogue with the Government on matters concerning the welfare of the University. 
  • To do any other acts necessary to give effect to the powers conferred on the Convocation by the KCMC University Charter and Rules, 2025. 
  • To perform such other functions as may be delegated by the University Council and the Senate.

Election


Elections for the Convocation office bearers are held every three (3) years during the Annual General Meeting.
The process includes nominations, voting, and the announcement of results.
Only registered Convocation members are eligible to vote.
