About Our Department
Excellence in Physiological Education
The Department of Physiology at KCMC University in Moshi provides comprehensive Clinical Physiology courses for approximately 550 students annually across multiple programs including BSc Health Laboratory Sciences, BSc Physiotherapy, BSc Occupational Therapy, Medical Doctor (MD), and Masters of Medicine (MMED).
Our research focus centers on cardiovascular function in health and disease, with particular emphasis on the impact of physical activity and diet on human physiology.

Prof. Dr. Ger JM Stienen
Head of Department
Professor Ger Stienen is Head of the Department of Physiology at KCMC University. He is an emeritus professor from the Department of Physiology, Amsterdam UMC, Amsterdam, the Netherlands. His main research interests are energy metabolism and contractile function in skeletal and cardiac muscle in health and disease. He (co)authored 194 papers and book chapters and is member of European Society for Muscle Research, Biophysical Society USA and the East African Society of Physiological Sciences.

Dr. Titus Francis Msoka
Senior Lecturer
Dr. Titus Francis Msoka is Senior Lecturer at the Department of Physiology. He obtained a Medical Degree at KCMCollege in 2002, a Master in Clinical Physiology at Radboud University Nijmegen in 2006, and a PhD at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam in 2022.

Dr. Elizabeth Peter Msubi is Assistant Lecturer in the Physiology Department. She obtained Medical Degree at St. Francis University College of Health and Allied Sciences in Mwanza in 2018, and a Sc in Physiology at Muhumbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam in 2025.

Suzan Nimrod Kilamile
Assistant Lecturer
Suzan Nimrod Kilamile is Assistant Lecturer in the Physiology Department. She obtained a BSc (Hons) in Medical Physiology and Therapeutics at the University of Nottingham, UK in 2019 and a MSc in Physiology at Muhumbili University of Health and Allied Sciences (MUHAS) in Dar es Salaam in 2022. Her research interests are: maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases and endocrine physiology.

Daniel Laswai
Health Instructor
Daniel Laswai is a senior Health Instructor in the physiology Department. He obtained a BHLSc at KCMC University in 2014 and MSc in Epidemiology and Laboratory Management at Muhumbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam in 2021. He assists in the practicals for MD 1, BScHLS, BSc physiotherapy, BSc OT and BSc Nursing. He is also working with the Tanzanian government as a Disease Detective during outbreak investigation and management.

Clinician-scientist
Dr. Harold L. Mashauri is the clinician-scientist and a medical educator at the Department of Clinical Physiology, School of Medicine, KCMC University. He is involved in teaching, research and clinical duties at KCMC University and its teaching Hospital, Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre. Harold was born and raised in Tanzania where He completed his doctor of medicine training at KCMC University, School of Medicine in 2023.
