A Legacy of Mobility, A Future of Innovation
About Our Department
Prosthetics and orthotics
The Department of Prosthetics and Orthotics (P&O) at KCMC University stands as a beacon of rehabilitation excellence in Africa. Our department is not merely an academic centre; it is a hub where clinical precision meets human compassion, dedicated to the art and science of restoring human function.
Our Program
The Bachelor of Science in Prosthetics and Orthotics at KCMC University is four-year clinical degree. It is designed for those who possess a unique blend of a medical mind, an engineering heart, and a craftsman’s hand. As the leading program of its kind in the region, we don’t just teach students how to build medical devices; we train Prosthetists/Orthotists dedicated to restoring independence and advancing the future of mobility.
Our Laboratories
Our department boasts a sophisticated, multi-zone laboratory ecosystem designed to take a device from initial patient clinical assessment to final high-tech fabrication. This is where the Legacy of Mobility is built every day.

Casting Area
The starting point of custom care, where precise negative impressions of a patient’s limb are captured using specialized plaster techniques.

Modification Area
A dedicated space for rectifying and sculpting models to ensure the perfect anatomical fit and pressure distribution.

Lamination and Moulding Area
Our high-tech zone for working with advanced resins, carbon fibres, and thermoplastics to create durable, lightweight sockets and shells.

Technical Workshop Area
A spacious environment fitted with individual professional work benches, allowing students to focus on the fine assembly of components.

Machine Room
Equipped with heavy-duty routers, sanding machines, and vacuum forming units for high-precision finishing.
