KCMC University Conducts Academic Staff Review and Appraisal Committee Meeting

 

KCMC University conducted an Academic Staff Review and Appraisal Committee meeting on 2nd September 2026. The event was officially opened by the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ephata E. Kaaya, who emphasized the importance of integrity, governance
boundaries, and zero tolerance for compliance deficits in maintaining high academic and professional standards at the University.

This was followed by an introduction session led by the Deputy Vice Chancellor – Academic, Research and Consultancy (DVC-ARC), Prof. Kajiru Kilonzo, who welcomed and introduced the members of the committee and participants.

The meeting proceeded with a series of presentations, discussions, and practical sessions covering key areas of academic staff review and appraisal, including:

  • OPRAS mechanics and threshold eligibility auditing
  • Publication points and assessment mechanics
  • Peer review and balancing
  • Hands-on flaw detection exercises conducted through group sessions
  • Discussions on strengthening the accuracy, fairness, transparency, and compliance
    of the academic staff appraisal process

The practical group sessions provided participants with an opportunity to identify potential flaws and inconsistencies in appraisal processes and discuss appropriate approaches to addressing them.

The event concluded with closing remarks from the DVC-ARC, Prof. Kajiru Kilonzo, who thanked the participants for their active engagement and encouraged continued commitment to integrity, accountability, and adherence to institutional policies
and procedures.
