Department of Behavioural and Social Sciences
Welcome to the Department of Behavioural and Social Sciences. Public health is never only a clinical or statistical affair, it is profoundly human. Our department examines the behavioural, social, ethical and cultural forces that shape health, and the ways programmes can be designed, monitored and evaluated to serve people equitably. Our faculty bring expertise across behavioural science, leadership and governance in health, bioethics, monitoring and evaluation, sociology of health, and qualitative research, mentoring future leaders in our healthcare to conduct ethically sound, socially accountable, and impactful work. We warmly welcome students and partners who wish to strengthen the social and ethical foundations of public-health practice in Tanzania and across Africa.
