Professor Michael Johnson Mahande, PhD, is an Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Applied Biostatistics at KCMC University, Tanzania. He teaches Epidemiology, Biostatistics, and Research Methodology to undergraduate and postgraduate students and supervises Master’s and PhD research projects.

His research expertise includes reproductive, maternal, newborn, child, and adolescent health (RMNCAH), HIV prevention, family planning, and implementation research. He has extensive experience in epidemiological study design, advanced statistical analysis, and the use of survey and maternally linked registry data.

Prof. Mahande has published more than 200 peer-reviewed scientific articles and has served as Principal Investigator or Co-Principal Investigator on several major research and capacity-building initiatives, including SSACAB, THRiVE, and the Willows Reproductive Health Program. Currently, he leads and co-leads NIH- and CIHR-funded projects focused on trauma care training, maternal wellbeing, and health systems strengthening. He has a strong track record of building multidisciplinary research teams and fostering collaborations with local and international partners.
