Professor Rachel Manongi is a Public Health Specialist and Professor in the Community Medicine at the School of Public Health, KCMC University. A medical doctor by training, she began her career in clinical practice and health-systems leadership at Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre (KCMC), where she served as Principal Medical Officer before building a research portfolio centred on women’s and reproductive health. Her work spans family planning and contraceptive use, maternal and perinatal health, cervical cancer prevention, HIV, and occupational health, as well as the use of mHealth and clinical decision-support tools to strengthen care in resource-limited settings.
Prof. Manongi has led and co-authored numerous studies in collaboration with international partners, including the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, and serves as Project Manager for the Willows Impact Evaluation in Tanzania. As a dedicated mentor, she has trained members of the healthcare workforce in and out of Tanzania since 1999, nurturing a new generation of public-health researchers. Her work continues to focus on improving the quality and equity of maternal, reproductive, and community health services across northern Tanzania and beyond.
